Hello,

I've made a free software that detects any Japanese text in a running game and copies it to the clipboard. It is then possible to use a 3rd party software such as Translation Aggregator to display the furiganas (Kanji readings) or even a translation!

The requirement is to provide a profile for each game including a pixel perfect matching font.

Fortunately, it is possible to build a True Type NEC PC98 font using mk98font, then use the included Font Builder to make a compatible font.

Download and more information on the official website:
neko.works/FBCR

Please take the time to check it out, I would love to have early feedback on it. Thanks!

Wow, this is pretty amazing. Nice work!

Is it really not possible to share the NEC PC98 font so we can all get started more easily?

Thanks!

The download includes a few NEC PC98 built fonts and profiles. Those fonts could be used for other games.

[EDIT]
Here's the NEC PC98 true type font that you need to install in Windows to be able to make variations using Font Builder:

Though I'm not sure if it is perfect, as I had error when making it using mk98font.

I will try to update the website as soon as I can with more information on how to use FBCR.

Anyway, here's a quick profile that I've made for the NEC PC98 version of Kuro no Ken:

This is just for the NPC dialogues, you will need to make another profile for the intro / cut-scenes. Here's a shot:

I like your way of thinking. This is a wonderful idea for a program. It solves a real problem and saves time.

A more generic solution, if real-time results are not a priority, would be screenshot analysis.

Thank you for sharing.

Edit: You might want to use screenshots that don't demonstrate mistakes in Translation Aggregator (歳).
