Normally I wouldn't have bid that much, but I was mad about losing the other auction, so I decided I was going to win no matter what.

Now here's an auction that came up for Pippin software. http://page10.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/a ... m178835507
That's not something I'm normally interested in, but it has Funky Funny Aliens, which is a rare game, the ONLY adventure game which is exclusive for Pippin, and it also runs on Macintosh.
There is already a dump of it, but I always wanted a real copy for myself. And every other Pippin game is already dumped, too... there are very few exclusives, anyway. Out of the 60 or so Pippin titles, maybe 5 or 6 are exclusives.

I was going to bid 40,000 there, but when I went there someone already bid 50,000 and I noticed they have very high feedback, so they're probably some foreigner using a proxy service, and intending to sell all the pippin games separately on ebay at a way too expensive price.
So I bid 60, 70, 80000 just to fuck with them.

Of course I would never pay 80000 just for Funky Funny Aliens, but if he's going to take that copy from me, I will make him pay for it.

That you've won the auction Samurai Mech? Wow! Congratulations.

I have one Mac laptop that takes floppies, unfortunately I don't have a way to get files from that laptop, so I have to buy a zip drive before I can upload the game.

Anyway, I'm a lot more excited about finding a copy of Maze Brew....

Yahoo user Let's_goda owns a lot of games but he tends to be too high on prices, I could find a lot of his titles at very low prices from other sellers. But I frequently use his account to list japanese games, for reference.

My worst fears have been realized. I knew it as soon as I opened the Samurai Mech box and saw the disks with those little stains on them.

THEY DON"T WORK!
All of the 7 floppy disks have failed.

But... my other floppy games stopped working too. So, the drive may be dirty.

I'm going to buy a floppy drive head cleaner AND a new drive so I can make absolutely sure. Even if I can't copy all floppy disks, I should be able to copy at least some of them.

On a good note, the game is complete in the box, all items are included (this wasn't made clear in the auction.)

You should search for a way to clean the disks too.

After a cleaning, it still fails to work, and actually makes a noise that I don't like. This happened on both of my old Macs as well as my USB drive... I suspect it may be damaging the drives somehow. I don't want to risk it further.

He got Samurai Mech 1.02 in 2012 but not the manual. And I'm assuming the copy protection's got a randomized element to it since there's multiple red-on-black pages in the manual dedicated to it.

If you know a way to contact Macaw, tell him I can provide scans of all the books right away, if he agrees to share the game.

I've found a copy of Funky Funny Aliens made for the Macintosh! I thought it was exclusive for Pippin (although the Pippin version does run on Macintosh) so this is very exciting for me. This is not in the surugaya catalog either. Another super rare japanese adventure game found by accident

I wonder if all these super rare Windows & Mac games were covered in the old Login magazines from the 90s. I feel like maybe I should buy a few copies.
