Here I go :

1) To avoid any problem with companies and copyright owners all users must post old or not sold anymore material. Irrelevant posts will be deleted.

2) Posts must be related to Retro Japanese Computing and emulation. That's our area of expertise, and it's already quite big. Irrelevant posts will be deleted.

3) We are gentlemen from one of the darkest corners of the internet, let's welcome rookies even if they call floppies "romz".

4) This is an old community, no need to bump on threads or harass members. Please be patient.

Thanks everybody,
Joseph Sadaoki "Ben" Tokugawa.

Hehe, I'm also a rookie then since I use "ROM" for disk images sometimes simply for convenience. E.g. my PC98 folder has a "ROMs" subfolder and every entry in my own PC98 "database" is divided into a "Game Data" and a "ROM Data" section. The word "ROM" is just so conveniently short and everyone knows it refers to images for emulators, even though it's tecnically wrog when used for writable media.

@Ben

What about images for old PC98/Towns etc. games where there are recent remakes?
If you rule them out too, then that would probably also include games like YU-NO or Plicenauts since you could possibly find a shop that is still selling the Windows/PSX ports.
Could be quite difficult to define a definite rule here...

A number of companies like Elf and Alicesoft do sell a large number of games for Windows, apart from an increased colour pallette a large number of games are the same as the PC-9801 versions.

Hmm.. just a question. If a game that is currently being sold is posted on another site/forum, it would be correct to post a link to the other site/forum? (I mean, not posting direct download links, just the page/topic)

Would it be permissible? Or ultimately is the same thing?

Personally, I don't have a problem with Japanese games, especially if they're older than 2000.

Yu-no: the Windows port sold by Elf is anecdotal. It's not a remake, it's the PC-98 version with a new exe and the FM music replaced with a crappy WAV recording of the OPNA soundtrack.

Policenauts: I don't have a problem with the console versions since IMO they're abandonware to the fullest extent of the definition (not even talking about the PC-9821 original).

Sounds fine to me, as long as it's in our field (japanese, remake or continuation of an old series).

Crap, moderating is tough

Why is this game getting mentioned in this forum every 3 seconds now.

I already blame you all for the fact I spent about half of yesterday playing the game and figuring it out.

Which reminds me that for some time, Yui was advertising Neko as "the Yu-no emulator"...

Kaminari is surely the most active promoter of Yu-No around

You can be sure that if the game was in english, I'd promote it as well.
The OST is simply groundbreaking, best thing that's come out of any eroge. <3 Ryu Umemoto
