Ah, I totally forgot. With the latest version of hoot..., and joshw's current sets and xml files, I haven't been able to get the following to work:

-Psy-O-Blade (X1) OPNA (!) doesn't work (invalid driver)
-Star Cruiser (PC-98) doesn't work (invalid driver)
-Revolter (PC-98) doesn't work (no sound)

There are others and I don't remember them at the moment. I even tried a clean copy of hoot..., same thing. (You know, I like the original xmls; there are a few things the English files throw out that they probably shouldn't.)

I know I should probably be bugging Knurek about this, but he seems swamped enough already. :(

I just tried Star Cruiser (pc98/sc_98.zip, YM2203) and it works for me with hoot version 2013-06-02 and the 2013-07-07 xml files.

With Psy-O-Blade (x1/x1psyo.zip), the YM2149 version works, the YM2151 version has no sound.

Revolter (PC-88, not PC-98 I believe: pc88/revolter.zip, YM2608) has no sound.

Wow, I totally screwed that list up, sorry. Must have broke something then.

-Psy-O-Blade (X1) YM2151 doesn't play sound; YM2149 works fine.
-Star Cruiser (PC-88) doesn't work at all, claiming "invalid driver".
-Revolter (PC-88) doesn't play sound.

But yes, everything you've said matches my experiences, so fortunately it's not something on my end.

OK, same experience here for the PC-88 version of Star Cruiser, both the YM2203 and YM2608 versions give me "invalid driver" as well.

I'm not 100% certain, but Knurek's tracklist for Star Cruiser 88 seems to use a deprecated driver (November 2000). The Japanese tracklist from Hoot is more recent (August 2010) but is not compatible with Knurek's music pack. A new music pack needs to be recut from the game disk image.

The other games probably have a similar issue.

I figured it'd be something like that. For some reason, I wish the hoot... guy would leave old versions up for download, (unless I just haven't found that section yet), so I could make some kind of "snesmusic hoot archive" package.

The Hoot player has been updated on 2013-12-31.

Sound driver bugfixes.
The YM2151 X68Sound core can be overridden by an external library (X68Sound.dll).
The YM2608 Mame core now supports the rhythm ROM (2608_*.wav samples).

Happy new year 8)

Knurek's Hoot Archive has been updated on 2014-05-19.

Nothing new rip wise I think, I just went through and fixed all the broken sets reported earlier (most of them will need to be redownloaded, as the patches for them have changed).
Also of note, I've uploaded a fairly recent build of mt32sound.dll to the main folder, might be useful to some folks.
Wish I had time for more Hoot work, sorry guys, portable music history and Real Life (TM) is taking its toll on me. Let me know if you manage to find other broken sets, I'll at least try to have everything in working order.
