I'm still playing around in order to try and get the OAK CD-ROM drivers working... Damn it's difficult when you don't read / understand Japanese :cry:

It seems that you need to load OAK0.SYS and OAK1.SYS as well as EMM386.EXE...

The important CONFIG.SYS lines look like:

DEVICE=\DOS\HIMEM.SYS /LIM:NEW /TESTMEM:OFF
DEVICE=\DOS\EMM386.EXE ON RAM
DOS=HIGH,UMB
DEVICEHIGH=\DOS\KKCFUNC.SYS
DEVICEHIGH=\DOS\OAK0.SYS
DEVICEHIGH=\DOS\OAK1.SYS /O1 /S0 /H1 /K0 /R1 /M2 /B1 /D:TOWNS_CD

However, there seems to be an error with EMM386.EXE (see first highlighted white background area) and also with OAK0.SYS regarding EMS (see second highlighted white background area):

Can somebody who reads / understand Japanese please translate this for me?

Lol, sorry, I didn't have time for the forum lately.

Before it will drive you mad take my advice and stop it because

There is no way to access a CD-ROM from a Japanese character imput driver!!! :lol: :lol:

OAK0.SYS + OAK1.SYS are the equivalent of ATOK on PC98 or MS IME for Windows - a FEP (front end processor) for entering and converting Japanese keyboard imput. It has nothing to do with CD-ROM drives.

Why did you try to access the CD drive with OAK?.SYS when it was already working anyway???
Apparently the MS-DOS CD drivers are CDDRV.SYS and CDISC.SYS + MSCDEX.EXE.

EMM386.EXE can't be loaded because it requires HIMEM.SYS (or a compatible XMS driver), and HIMEM.SYS is not working because Unz is basically one big hack for TownsOS. The emulation of the "real" FM-Towns hardware is still relatively weak.
TownsOS is working quite well but any other OS that isn't "fixed" by the emulator like TownsOS works only partially or not at all.
The setup utility you described sounds quite nice but when it comes to sysing the HD/partition you should use TownsOS and not MS-DOS.

I usually use one of the System Software CDs for the whole process when I have to create a new HD which is not happening very often.
I already have a working HD image here with 2 128MB partitions - first partition with full TownsOS installation and the second one empty for games that require HD installation.

I see... I just presumed that they were CD-ROM driver files like OAKCDROM.SYS in English MS-DOS 6.2 and so forth...

Just as a challenge I guess :P

Thanks for the info.
