Post subject:  Question: dumping a cassette tape

Found a PC-8001 cassette tape. I don't have a data recorder so I used a normal tape player instead. I recorded the wav file but when I converting the file to .cmt format it always gets wrong. So my question are: is a data recorder really necessary? And is the volume and voltage should be noticed? If anyone could help I will upload my wav file. Thanks.

What do you call a data recorder and a normal tape player?

I've been recently dumping tapes using a Philips D6350 and it has all the desired features for this task: Bass & Treble controls, Manual Volume Setting, Speed Regulator, etc.

IMHO it's a must-have tape player/data recorder ;-)
