For those of you who might not have seen it there is a copy of an interesting review of the PC-8800 from around the time of its USA release at the link below. It is by David Ahl, who started Creative Computing magazine and produced those wonderful Basic Computer Games books in the early 1980's. After reading that review, who could not just have to have one!!

Wow, over 2000 $ for a such a machine

This is something I actually miss from http://www.old-computers.com/

There are anecdotes detailling how computers like the PC6000 Mk2 or the FM7 were released outside Japan, but no actual release data. Another computer that was released at least in Europe was the Sony SMC-777, and the European Sharp Mz800 is supposedly almost identical to the Japanese MZ 1500.

Here are some pics I once scaled off eBay of the PC6000 USA version - the Nec Trek:

Great, great stuff.

Now I know a few people who would kill for those manuals ;)

"We have been assured by NEC that a great deal of additional software will be available before long, and we have no reason to doubt them."

Priceless :D

Remind you of a chat at some Frecnh show with NEC representatives a few years back? ;)

They were Hudson guys ;p

Looks like NEC, Hudson and TTi missed many opportunities to take on the world in spite of their superior products (ok... PC-FX excluded). When you look at the competition, you realize that the Power of Marketing and Big Dough really has no limit. Shame!

Ah, Head Over Heels on the PC-88... Those could have been the days...

Well, I have a Sony SMC-70 that somehow found its way to South Africa. It has a sticker saying it was originally purchased at Computerland in Albuquerque, New Mexico on 19 September 1983 LOL!

Wow. I never knew the the PC-8800 was released in the US. I really need some pics of this. I wonder if it's compatible with japanese games? I assume it doesn't include OPN (YM2203) so probably no chance with SR games.

I apologize if these have been mentioned before. I came across some PC-8000 and PC-8800 PDF brochures that look like they were targeted at the European market ( one refers to a business in Holland at the bottom ):

http://www.1000bit.it/ad/bro/nec/NECpc8000number2.pdf
http://www.1000bit.it/ad/bro/nec/necpc8800.pdf

Thread resurrection and all.

Well, you could always try this Dutch company - they seem to have quite a range of software ( outrageously priced though LOL ):
