The Seventh Seal ~Lost Reminiscence~Genre: RPG
Released: January 3rd, 2003
Developer: Soft-World (Apparently one of the biggest Taiwanese game companies, but they mostly do mmos now - of which I can find no information).
Language: Japanese / Chinese
AKA: The Seventh Seal ~The Resurrection of the Dark Lord~
I requested this game in
this thread, but never heard back, so I redoubled my efforts to find it myself and discovered some links to it had been right under my nose the whole time. A person (the poster "Catalyst") posted a link (to some links) to it in a Hardcore Gamer 101 thread
here, and I snatched them up. However, the links that person provided were to some weird bare-bones Japanese filehosting site, and the actual downloading process took a very long time (2-3 hours for each part). You can find that site
here, or you could follow the links provided in the HG101 thread. Anyway, I've uploaded the game to Mediafire so people don't have to rely on those super slow Japanese links.
Now, I'm pretty sure it's a legitimate copy of the game, but I haven't tested it. The contents of the merged rar were the following: 7TH_INST1.iso, 7TH_INST2.iso, 7TH_INST3.iso, 7TH_PLAY1.iso, 7TH_PLAY2.iso, and a separate rar containing "game.exe" which I presume is a crack, as the icon definitely seems related to the game. Because of this weird set of files though, I'm sort of unsure of how to go about installing the game. I suppose mounting one of them would be a good start, but I'm reluctant to install the game, reason being that the game apparently used StarForce copy protection, which you can read about
here if you haven't heard of it. I think StarForce games can install weird shit on your computer, so if you want to test this game, tread carefully. I've also included a word file with the install instructions copied and pasted into it (I google-translated them - they're actually just below those five links on that weird japanese filehosting site).
I personally really want to play it, but I'm not sure if it'd be worth the risk, especially given that it's not in English. Look
here and
here for some really tasty screens and concept art and stuff that'll probably make you want to play it too (this is pretty much the only source of these images that seems to exist). Here's a couple, but the rest are definitely worth looking at (major Final Fantasy IX vibe to a lot of them):
Oh yeah, and I almost forgot to mention what got me so interested in this game in the first place: The soundtrack. The score was composed by none other than Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger / Cross, Xenogears, Xenosaga I, Soma Bringer [okay game, great soundtrack]), and so I'm sure this game has at the very least SOME lovely music.
Anyway, enjoy! (at your own discretion).
