I don't know if this'll interest anyone, but right now I'm watching a three part OVA called
Salamander. It's of course heavily based on Konami's Gradius/Salamander saga. The anime itself is very old (retro chara designs everywhere, I love them), there's no CG in animation (yay!) and the plot is rather thin, but what should one expect from the animation based on shoot 'em-up? Yet it has its moments, especially when I recognize ships, enemies, bosses (shoot the core!), attacks, terminology (use the force field, Luke!) and remixed musical scores from the games. I won't say it's an absolute must even for every Gradius fan, but it's definitely worth checking when you have some spare time to kill.
