Hello all

I got a FM77 AV40 SX but it came without a keyboard. I don't speak japanese so info on this computer is very hard to find. There is a connector on the front panel that looks identical to old Apple keyboards - it fits fine but the keyboard doesn't work.

So is it possible to use any other keyboard besides the original on this computer?

Thanks

There is a good chance that it's not compatible, most japanese computers have specific keyboards. I'm no expert but if I were you I would try to find one on Yahoo Auctions.

Good luck

AFAIK the FM77AV40SX keyboard protocol it's not compatible with any other brand despite the connector similarities. Sadly, without a proper keyboard it's an useless machine.

Anyway if you have a FM77AV family keyboard (the one with RJ11 connector) you can easily make an adapter and it will work fine with the SX.

Thanks for the responses. I did see an adapter for sale that allows using FM77AV keyboards but those keyboards seem to be pretty rare as well (could not find any for sale on yahoo auctions). I guess I will just have to keep waiting until one comes up. if anyone here knows of any other alternative or knows any place where I could buy one of these keyboards please let me know.

You can make a adapter for your self.

Thanks Anna! I was looking for the pin out and could not find it. I wonder what would happen if I try to match this with the Apple ADB pin configuration... at least both are 5v, so I guess I wouldn't burn anything :-)

Quite a bargain for anyone outside of Japan.

May it´s better to correct the topic in your auction. The FM-77 was a part of the later FM-7 series and has nothing to do with the FM Towns family.
