Post subject:  Sony SMC-777 Uploads

Hi,

in case you have missed the recent progresses by Kale, I'd like to advertise a bit the fact that MESS currently emulates pretty well the Sony SMC-777 (see e.g. http://mamedev.emulab.it/kale/?p=1365 )

if you want to test the status, please download latest svn build from http://bobz38.free.fr/mess_autobuild/index.php
grab the BIOS from

http://www.sendspace.com/file/tn0lfu

put it in the roms/ directory, mount in the floppy drive one of the disks that you find here

http://www.sendspace.com/file/dv6osj

and give it a try.

Also, the pack I linked contains all the disk images we have access to. If you happen to have any additional software [1], please contact me or upload the files somewhere :)

have fun

[1] the pack contains:
Develop v1.4
SMC-777 System v1.2j
Corewars
Dragon's Alphabet
Zebloc II
S-OS Monitor v2.0
S-OS Monitor v2.2
+
CP\M v2.2 (which was actually released for the Sony SMC-70, but it works well in the 777 too)

but many more games were released, see e.g. http://www.smc777.com/alllist.htm

Thanks. Kale has some other screens on his page, e.g. from Mysterious boy, can you share that as well eta, or is it included somewhere in there? Is Romshare back somewhere, or is there a similar place you mess folks hang out for that? I' don't want to bother Anna about that again, you know

I have asked to Kale and it's not a separate game: you launch the system disk (sys12j if you use software lists) and you load BOY (Mysterious Boy), CAT (Pink Cat) or BIRD (Bird Crash) to play some simple games :)

This is my first post in TF; so....Hi to all!, it's nice to be here! ^_^

I'm an avid collector of Japanese computers and the Sony SMC-777 is one of my fave ones. Maybe it's far from the popularity of the mainstream machines like the NEC series, Sharp MZs or MSX ones; but it's still a great machine with an amazing hardware :)

Here's my contribution. It's a software pack that I collected time ago from the web (so it's nothing new); but it's a great idea to have it all at hand in the same thread:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/a9191m

The titles are (mainly games and some tools):

- Fruit Fields
- Ghost City
- Hover Tank Hetzer
- Mad Clash
- Mevious
- Rocker
- SMCPaint
- Solitaire
- Sony Filer14j
- Striker
- Tetris
- Vortex
- XOR777

Most of them need to be launched from Filer, others need BASIC. I've included Sony Filer 14j for this purpose...

I've some more titles that I need to check and I'll upload ASAP. I'm also interested in CP/M games compilation, like Zork series or Rogue like ones.
For now, I've only checked Sargon Chess and it works flawlessly with CP/M 2.2 :D

@repoMan: do you happen to have also the original floppy images in addition to the spare files? because it would be nice to preserve the original media in addition to the disk contents...

@everybody: can anyone point me to a disk utility which allows to put files into a .d88 image (.1dd is nothing else than .d88 renamed)? I'd like to test these programs in emulators :)

Sadly I don't have any originals and the software I own was found as it is, mostly raw executables and no real 1DD images :(.
Using the tools below I've built some compilations only for ease of use.

And here's the tool I'd mention:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/v4x0sk

It's called 1DDTool.
Beware it's not really for use with .D88 images; but only with .1DD images. Although this tool it's based on DITT, the image geometry is completely different.

Not sure about real D88 images; but about to edit D77 images, you can use FTools

thanks for the tool! I will try it in the weekend

are you sure? because I see difference in the currently available .1dd images compared to .d88 disks (or to .d77 disks). there is the fact that you can glue multi-disks in a single .d88, which I don't think is permitted in .1dd, but other than that disks can be treated the same.

of course the real disks are incompatible and store data in different ways, but the format take care of describing the differences in the header ;)

EDIT: also, this thread about .d88
http://fullmotionvideo.free.fr/forum/vi ... .php?t=261
seems to mention 1dd disks to be indeed supported by the .d88 format (in addition to the empirical evidence of disks working in MESS ;) )
