I've got a few games for the IBM PC JX, and although I don't know of any emulators out there for it, I'd like to back up what I've got. Especially the JX version of Thunder Force I.

Wow I didn't know about this hardware.

Since i runs DOS it *might* be possible to do some backup on a regular PC with floppy drive. Google "floppy disk imaging software" to find the right tool, if it exists.

Unfortunetly only one of the JX games I have (some boring golf game) is DOS formatted, the rest appear to be proprietary. If I boot the JX into DOS, I can't pop Thunder Force in and look at the files. I have to boot off the disk. I've tried using DOS backup software that can capture a PC Jr disk just fine, but it keeps giving me bad sector errors when I try with Thunder Force.

The JX is a really confusing system when it comes to intercompatibility with other PCs. It's not compatible with a regular PC unless you pop in a special compatibility cartridge, but even when you do it won't run most PC Jr software. I did get a PC JR cartridge game, Pitfall II, to somewhat work on the JX, but the screen's inverted (the underground area is at the top of the screen and vice versa).

Perhaps you can get help from the M.e.s.s. team, I'd guess at least that some people over in their forum have some experience with dumping for rare systems. They work on a Pcjr driver, and I guess they'd have eventually to pick up the JX too given the ambition of the project.
