I know it's possible to use a Roland MT-32 with emulators like DOSbox to get authentic sound with custom patches and everything. A lot of X68000 emulators seem to patch MIDI instructions through to Windows MIDI in much the same way and I was wondering if the same thing would be possible, and if anyone knows any details of how to make it work.

Also on a related note, I was wondering if anyone knows how to enable the MT-32/CM-64 mode in Wolfteam games like Arcus Odyssey, Sol Feace, Granada, etc. They have brilliant MIDI soundtracks but they don't have a menu option to enable them and I'm lost as to how to do this.

Thanks in advance.

In most X68K emus, you just need to choose your MIDI interface as your MIDI device, and set the reset option to "LA". Call me Captain Obvious, but you also need an MT-32 or compatible synth to benefit from it :)

As for configuring the games you mention in order to output MT-32 music, I'm afraid I can't help you. If there's no in-game option to select, maybe it is required to run a dedicated setup program before launching the game?

Hope this helps.

You have to hold down the 登録 key before the game starts loading from disk, and keep it held down until the game starts up.

Shou told me once you had to hold down one of the F keys or something, but he didn't know/specify which. I don't think there's an external setup.

Hi, it's definitely the 登録 key that you need to hold down, I've just tried it on both a real machine and an emulator. If you're using an emulator, you will of course need to check what key 登録 is mapped to.

I've got both Sol-Feace and Granada and this is how they work. I don't have Arcus Odyssey.

Yay, let's celebrate with IGN's first X68000 review!

Of course it had to go under the Genesis listing, but the text and images refer to the original.

Hahahha! Using Mid-garts as an example of previous PC action games... wtf!

I did in a way. Certainly had a unique story and was kinda cool at times, but the action portions were pretty terrible. Well, there were a couple of moments when the action was ok, but its obvious they didn't really put much effort into that aspect of the game.

It was used as an example of Wolf Team's previous action games. And yeah, maybe Final Zone or Yaksa would have been better/kinder choices but I was trying to put Granada in its immediate context.

I also never endorsed that stereotype I mentioned, and I said it was already obsolete by then, but I just said the perception was there (based largely on the fact that popular Japanese computers of the 8-bit gen struggled with smooth scrolling and sprite pushing) and Mid-Garts wasn't the game to change anyone's mind.
