Post subject:  COMSIGHT - which computers was it released on?

I'm editing an interview with the creator of COMSIGHT, described as thus:

Quote:
The player is on the left side, and the computer on the right. It's a game in which you use a BASIC-like language to program tanks to battle each other. It was only for the most hardcore of players. <laughs> If it were made today, it would be with polygons, but that was the best we could do at the time. It was so hardcore we only ever made a PC-88 version.

However, the Japanese Wikipedia page says it was released on PC-88, X1 Turbo, and X68000.

Is this true? Can we verify this? Are there disk dumps of the game for X1 Turbo or X68000?

It was announced for X1, and possibly also for X68000, but I've never seen physical evidence of those versions. So perhaps it was announced for all three systems, but then only released on the PC88.

I think you're right.

I also asked Joseph, who collects all of Tecno Soft's games, and according to the GPS database, there is only a PC-88SR version.

Interesting, it looks like this game's concept resembles Origin's Omega, which came out some years later.

There's actually about 25+ games all very similar to this. The designer behind COMSIGHT got the idea from reading about RobotWar on the Apple II (circa 1981), but didn't have an Apple II, so decided to make it himself based on what he read.

Here is an incomplete list of such titles:

Once I started looking into this, the rabbit hole went deep.

Omega just came to my mind because it also features tanks. It's one of those "someday, I'll try this" games, the manual is 250+ pages.

I find these are part of those "more fun to read than try to play" type games.

Though I do keep meaning to someday start Carnage Heart. Apparently the second CD is supposedly just all tutorial. Or so I recall EGM saying back in the day.
