Hello, after seeing the excellent job did with some japanese computers regarding the software archivation I would like to step in and volunteer to maintain a DAT for X68000, Windows and maybe Apple platforms. What do you think?

Excellent thought. Where you plan to buy rare stuff for preservation.

What I plan to do at the start:
-Gather as much software as possible from the web
-Start to organize the dat
-Focus mainly on popular/more available software, like Koei and Falcom for example

When the project is consolidated:
-Actively searching for specific software, eventually sourcing a physical copy from Japan

What I need help for:
-What software should I use to create the dat?
-Any naming conventions I should be aware of?
-Someone that in the future will take care of creating/uploading the torrent
-Given my extremely limited free time, when I'll buy something someone should step in to rip/test the media (especially when it comes to anything different then regular cd-rom since I don't have the hardware to rip it). Once a copy is preserved the physical media should be put back on sale to fund further purchases

What I exclude at the moment:
-Purchasing highly expensive and obscure titles, given the large scope of the project and the limited resources we have, I'm conscious that we can't save everything, hence the decision to focus on the popular stuff (at least at the start). I know we're not curators but archivist, but we don't live in a perfect and choices must be made, something is better than nothing :)

Popular stuff is meh...

You should focus on rare (at extinction risk) software like me: a lot of other websites and p2p circuits already have dumps for popular or 18+ japanese games. Or maybe I'm missing something...

You might like to look at TOSEC and UnRenamed rom sets before doing anything.. They have a huge number of Japanese system games/software ... UnRenamed is updated every 6 months or so.

Just a thought :)

I took a look at the Unrenamed DATs, there is a lot of unsorted stuff for japanese systems.Do we know where to download ROM sets?

Hey guys! what do you think about hired explorer (ハイアード・エクスプローラー) by studio van? Is this already dumped?

Any chance Bakudd can do a dump of The Alius?

I can share dump of Dan, if someone is interested.
