The sound files on Angel Dive are all in .ZDM and .PCM format and initially the game had no sound.
I've imported ZMSC.X into the rom and now the sound effects play but still not the background music.
Anyone got any bright ideas?

You need for run music and sound effect for game find a program for playing music (sound driver). These programs do not have a floppy diskette.
And files game plus sound driver will not fit on a floppy disk.
Need copy all game files on hdd image.
In your example, you need a file ZMUSIC.x this system sound driver Z-MUSIC take here
http://www.retropc.net/x68000/software/ ... c/zmusic2/

For best sound effect you can use pcm8.x resident driver in real-time multiplexed ADPCM playback.

take here
http://www.retropc.net/x68000/software/ ... /index.htm

files autoexec.bat

ZMUSIC -R
pcm8 -r
ZMUSIC -P0 -T0 -M -N
MAIN
ZMUSIC -R
pcm8
ZMUSIC

Thanks- I got zmusic.x and pcm8.x and imported them into an hdd image of the game.
When it boots there's a line which says "zmusic is not kept in your system" and then it plays with sound effects but still no bgm.
What should i do next?

OK thanks again!
I mounted your .hdf in Winx68k and XM6 but still no BGM for me only SE!
What emulator with what settings are you using?
I have a choice of Microsoft GS and Creative Soundblaster PCI for midi output and a 44.1khz sampling rate but whatever options I use still no BGM.
What next?

FIXED!!!
The problem was in my Windows sound settings (not emulator or hardware at all).
As long as emulator MIDI setting is "Default", then checking "Use only default devices" in Windows Control Panel sound settings gives the BGM.
Thankyou so much for your time and patience in helping this get sorted.
Actually the Angel Dive soundtrack is pretty nice
:D

The game terminates abruptly for me at the end of Stage 3 even though there's an option to start at Stage 4 inthe config.
If i choose that option the game just restarts.
Upon inspection it turns out that the Stage 4 directory on the disk is empty.
This fact coupled with the lack of sound drivers suggest that developement of this game was never finished eh?
