Hi guys, this is my first post here :D

I just started playing with PC98 emulation, and I'm a bit overwhelmed with so much information...

So I'm struggling a little bit to run Policenauts. After many hours messing around with config.sys and a lot of different drivers I managed to make it run kinda nicely in T98 and even in Annex, but now that I've seen this video I'm crazy to get it running in NP2/fmgen! It's perfect! :shock: (or as good as I could wish)

I tried to follow the rather vague instructions linked on the video and forum, loaded the .cue image to IDE#2, user.fdi to FDD1 and tried to load, but I'm getting a message error "CDが使用できません!/Cannot use CD" :?

This is what my CONFIG.SYS looks like:

Code:
LASTDRIVE=Z
FILES=20
BUFFERS=10
SHELL=A:\COMMAND.COM a: /P /e:1024
DEVICE=A:\HIMEM.SYS /TESTMEM:OFF
DOS=HIGH,UMB
DEVICE=A:\EMM386.EXE /UMB
DEVICE=A:\NECCD.SYS /D:CD_101 /I0
DEVICE=A:\AVSDRV.SYS

Could someone help me, please? :)
Thank you in advance

Hmm, your CD driver seems to be correct to access Cds on NP21.
However, here the user disk image for the NP21 (not NP2) emulator.

DL

If you get a EMS error try to increase the memory (device > memory)
If you get a GDC clock error switch to 2-8 OFF (2.5 MHz) in your BIOS* setup.
*Press and hold the END key on your keyboard + make a Reset (emulate > reset)

Image

Quote:
CPU: 80486 9.8MHz
MEM: 640KB + 7168KB
GDC: EGC CG-Window 2.5MHz
24.82kHz / 56.4Hz
TEXT: width-80
GRPH: disable
SOUND: PC-9801-86
PCM: 44100Hz 16bit Stereo
0 / 128 / 32768
BIOS: bios.rom, sound.rom
RHYTHM: BSCHTR
SCREEN: true color (window)

YAY! It works like magic now!

It seems the problem was with my NECCD.SYS file, I was using a different version. :lol:

Thank you for the upload! :wink:

Hi again, I have a question regarding Neko Project II: I have downloaded a romset with contains multiple emulators for PC-98, and I want to know what versions of the emulator are the best:

np2.exe
np2nt.exe
np2sx.exe
np2sxnt.exe
np21.exe
np21nt.exe

Do you know what versions are the best for general emulation? I use np2sxnt.exe for games with floppy and PCM sounds, but I also use np21nt.exe for the Touhou 1-5 games. Thanks in advance.

You can safely use np21nt.exe for basically everything, and adjust the clockspeed and other options as needed.

Otherwise,
np2nt.exe - for software released up to about 1989
np2sxnt.exe - for software released up to about 1993
np21nt.exe - for software released 1993+

More detailed answer: np2 emulates a PC-9801 with a 286 or earlier processor, np2sx emulates the PC-9801 but with a 386SX processor, and np21 emulates a PC-9821.
The non-NT versions are for computers running Win95/98.

Thank you very much! Now I'm going to select the best of PC-98! (30GB+).

Please forgive my noobishness, but I've read through everything here and still had no luck.
I've been trying to get Disc Station 9 to work with Neko Kai. I gather that it requires a boot disk to run, but the generic CD boot disk uploaded by Kobushi on page 6 just causes it to bring up a dos prompt, from which I can do nothing of use.
. . . I have no clue what the hell I am doing.

Assuming you have mounted the CD correctly, then all you need to do is type the name of the CD drive (i.e. Q:) to switch over to it and then type the name of the bat or exe file that's on it. In this case i think it would be DS

Better late than never; thanks, TL. :)

Boils down to user stupi--, uh, error. Turns out I was doing everything properly, except for realizing what drive housed the CD. Think I tried up to G and gave up. Never even heard of a Q drive before. Madness.

Yeah, PC-98 and Japanese DOS have quite a few "quirks". But don't worry, you'll get used to them pretty soon. ;)

*Instead of creating new topic I'll write here*
There are some graphic issues in Anex98:
Image(Heart Heat Girls)
Image(Private Slave)
There are problems in other games as well: glitchy two screen CGs, corrupted graphics after screen's trembling (in "Taxi Genmukan" after protagonist's car bounces on the hubble, graphics become looking the same way you see on "Heart Heat Girls" screenshots.

Of course I know I can use NekoProject or T98, but since mentioned games are AGTHookable, I'd like to use Anex86 this time.
