I went field hunting using kobushi's renewed screen database, and found this website about Exllusion an online PC98 game I never found.

It links to a HDI but I have no possibility to check it atm (not home for a month).

The website says Copy OK on the front page.

Does anyone knows anything about this ?

Exllusion was an online RPG first launched on September 22, 1996 (just 5 days before Meridian 59). Alongside The Realm and Meridian 59, it is one of the oldest modern (non-MUD) MMOs.

You could order the game for free, and then pay connection charges by the minute (8 yen a minute!) or a flat montly rate. It was similar to a BBS system, in that players would use a dial-up modem to connect directly to the game server. According to one website, the game supported around 100 simultaneous players. The service was discontinued on June 28, 1998.

An MMO on the PC98 - how cool is that? 8)

Anyway, I don't think any copies of the client software exist. The server is long dead anyway, so it's impossible to play it.

Ben, I think that site you linked to is by one of the former developers. There are some really interesting design sketches.

The hdi from that site does not contain the full game, but it appears to be a map editor. You can open up a sample map and get an idea of how the game played.
Here's the hdi:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/qffdby

The procedure is a little complicated, so I'll explain.
1) Launch emulator (I used Neko), and mount system.hdi.
2) Press Enter twice to get to the command prompt.
3) Type KF, and press Enter to launch the file manager.
4) Select the MAP directory, and press Enter.
5) Select the SAMPLE.MAP file, and press Alt. A menu will appear.
6) Press Z.

This screen should appear:

Move around with the arrow keys. Tap Z and X to adjust the movement speed. If you press Enter, a status page and menu will open, but it doesn't do anything.

That's about it.

Dunno if you guys are still interested in tracking down information about this game, but the creator is active on Twitter.
Would gladly appreciate if someone could see if they could get some info out of him.

From World of Lucion, two capture guides with rare screenshots:
Lucion center (filled with towns, pages describe lore)
Xaliche/Zariche Desert

More info on the aforementioned graphics artist, going by Kujyo Negi:
NCC resume page
Home page (mail form available for contact)

Those design sketches are very interesting. Just seeing them in a discreet part of the Web is odd; I wonder if either developers would like to divulge and discuss about Exllusion.

Contacted 石川 克世 with the help of a friend. He doesn't know what happened to the source code, but he said if you have a Facebook account you can try asking 石山隼行.

Anyone have a Facebook account and would be willing to contact him?

I can't help you much in contacting him, but his name is Toshiyuki Ishiyama (石山隼行). He's a director for a game company called Secret Garden (シークレットガーデン) and worked on an online RPG called Megami Gensou Dinastia (女神幻想ダイナスティア).

Looks like he was the director for Exllusion.

On a related note, I came across a couple of patents registered to OCS HEAVEN. One detailing an online game system, and the other is the 'Real Time Network System':

And also some music from the game:

According to the description, they were composed by Kyohaku(?) Nakamura (中村虚薄) and Ariko Shimada (島田ありこ)

Here's my Facebook email: donrumataenregalia@facebook.com

You can send Fuji_fruit's message anytime and I'll forward it; not sure how to indicate the message isn't mine/is relayed.

I actually can't seem to find 石山隼行's facebook account. Got a link?

I see.

Well, my friend sucks at writing in Japanese and my Japanese is almost non-existent outside of basic sentences, so I think it would be better for someone grasp in writing to write something up.

Basically to explain who we are, why we're after it, and who referred us.
