I've been working on translating Illusion City for PC98.
The disk images are at my website.

Wonderful game, and great idea! But I can't unzip the demo file. Winrar reports it corrupted (?)

I tested the link and archive and it unzips correctly. If it still doesn't work for you, I'll upload the disk images separately.

Oh thanks a lot! I've been searching for the PC98 version of Illusion City for ages! Do you happen to have the PC-88 version too? And would you mind to share the original PC-98 disk images?
However, are you basing your work on the partial translation that was done for the MSX ?

It's actually a hybrid version for Pc98/Pc88 Va. At least that's the one I have. There's no version for regular Pc88s.

Yes, I am basing this translation of the Msx partial copy. I got permission from their translator to do this.

Ok, I got the images to unzip, thanks. It looks very nice, more detailed certainly than the MSX version. I noticed you improved the translation in a couple places too. The first battle went to Japanese, then switched back to english. Very ambitious project! I can't wait to follow your progress.

Thanks a lot, Starscream. Where did you manage to find that? I've been searching it for ages.
However, speaking of the translation, i find it to be very good. If the rest of it will attest on this quality level, it will be a wonderful job. :)

Only a question: i guess that some non translated parts are these way because of the character limit (like the octet dialogue option near the beginning of the game). If that's so, how do you think to overcome that limit?

With this game, it uses Shift-Jis encoding. A Unicode letter will be 2 hex digits. What I'm doing is replacing the Unicode Japanese letters with 1 hex digit Ascii letters and numbers. Most of script will fit into the finite spaces. The item names will have to be cut because there is no PC98 emulator that has an interactive debugger that will help me find pointers.

I'm a bit confused as to how you're changing the Japanese characters. Are you editing the game font, or does the game support single-byte text?

The game supports single byte characters.
