Does someone know(remember) the ancient rpg Elysion by System Soft in early 80's?
I think this game was never ported to pc-8801 etc and was strictly pc-9801 only game.

The problem is, userdisk must be created but I keep getting disk io/error on both anex and np.
For those kind enough to try it out, below are the link to the game.
http://rapidshare.com/files/141235063/E ... mSoft_.rar

1. Mount Elysion to drive 1 & Blank disk to drive 2
2. Reset the emulator
3. Select [Format] and proceed
4. Next, select [Make player disk] and proceed
5. It's at step 4 that I get "DISK I/O ERROR !! set FORMAT DISK in drive 2" message.

Maybe the image itself might be corrupted, but please let me know if someone find any solution, thanks.

The blank disk in the drive 2 should be MS-DOS formatted in advance.
The easiest way to clear your problem is to copy the original disk image ("ELYSION.FDI") and rename it (ex. "BLANK.FDI").
Enjoy!

Not early 80s, the game was released in 1986. A pc88 version supposedly exists (its listed in the pc88 gameworld disc) although it seems incredibly mysterious.

There is a full guide with screenshots for the game here http://katuo.hp.infoseek.co.jp/elysion/index.html

I've never played it because I've never found the pc98 disk images before, but it certainly appears to be a cross between Hydlide and Xanadu. From the screenshots it looks pretty charming. A Famicom version was created at around the the time, though its visually very different and pretty crap.

I've downloaded your images of the game and cant get it running myself, though I will be trying again a bit later, hopefully I manage to make it work.

On another note, I've never once seen the box cover art for this game, which I'd love to discover. System Softs other covers for stuff like Tir na nog are awesome, so Elysion must be something special~~~. I have seen the cover of the Famicom version, though obviously its totally different... they changed the visual style to be super deformed as opposed to the serious style of the PC version.

Macaw,

Thanks for the corrections, seems you know a lot about this game.
Elysion is a bit unusual as enemy only moves when player character moves, but gives you time to think tactically.
Also I remember playing excellent similar game by same maker called Bretonne Rei which had many short scenarios and X68000 version is the best one with enhanced super quality music.

The good news is I tried T98-next and succeeded to play it on that emu, but I still prefer to play Elysion on np or anex.
If someone finds any solutions let me know, thanks!

How did you get it working? I still get I/O error when trying to create new character disk in T98.

And yes, Brettone Lais is great game

Macaw,

1. Start T98
2. [ FD Drive(2) ] > [ New ] > [ New Image(Unformat) ] > [ Start ] (and name it "blank", "userdisk" or whatever you want)
3. Mount "Elysion" image on [ FD Drive(1) ]
4. Reset T98 and let it load "Elysion" image
5. You should now see menu screen

6. Select [ Format ] and follow instructions (wait until the red FD LED stops blinking)
7. Next, select [ Make player disk ] and follow instructions (wait until the red FD LED stops blinking)
8. Now, select [ New Character ] and follow instructions
9. If you complete step8 above successfully, your character should be outside castle, go north and enter castle, then get your first quest from the king(press F4 to talk) to retrive a ring and two scrolls inside dungeon. The entrance is to the west where you started.

obs: menu screen is english but all in-game transaction is in hiragana. Oh, one more thing. You can't save until you complete the first quest.

Hope it helps

It is actually listed to specify it was never released for the PC-88, to avoid any confusion (total success I guess ;).

Oh right, for some reason it works with new images created in T98. All the other blank images I tried didn't work...

I figured out that pressing shift followed by one of the function keys is how to bring up the various menu's and do stuff, but I still have no idea how to go down/up ladders in the dungeon, or how to save the game. Any ideas??

For Ladder, press UP or DOWN cursor key.

Saving is possible at Inn near the castle, but I haven't checked it yet.

Instead of shift, hitting the caps-lock key might be a good idea too ;)

To save the game, firstly you have to find "Ring of Valour" at the 5th floor in the first dungeon (left side of the king's castle).
After you show the ring to the king, you're permitted to enter the inn.
The chest which contains the ring is here:

However I could never find this chest on the image you uploaded.
It's possibly copy-protected...?
If anyone could get "Ring of Valour", please inform how to.

You're right, couldn't find the chest seen on the pic.
I googled but found nothing about copy-protection related with chest so this image might be corrupted after all.

And I wanted to clear this game because I never saw the ending last time played ages ago...
