A looooong time ago I bought one these thangs for my PC-98, inserted it in the back and promptly forgot all about it until I “rediscovered” it recently.
From searching it is an LA module (MT-32) and MPU-401 all rolled into one. Well, what PC98 games, if any, can even take advantage of this thing? I was hoping for Doom, but seems it was written for the SC55, so no dice…
I suppose I could use the MPU-401 portion to route the midi from Doom to an external compatible Roland module, but it seems I would need a MCB-2 breakout box for that, which mine didn’t come with. The port on the back, which is supposed to go into the MCB-2, could I get midi out of it using one of those cables that goes from a PC joypad port to midi? I think those cables were meant to work with sound blasters?
As it is this thing is looking a mighty lot like a lemon.
