On the subject of file formats, I've had MKFDD.EXE for some time, which is a floppy dumping program to make FDD files. I planned to use it to check that I properly understand the FDD format. It has to be run under a PC-98, so I put it onto an HDI file, then emulated it in Anex86, ran the utility (which ran without errors) on a target FDI I had loaded, and then used AnexDiet to pull the resulting file out.
After renaming it to .FDD, I figured I would now have the equivalent of running that same .FDI through VFIC. Nope... MKFDD doesn't properly sequence the sectors. I tried running the image through Virtual98 to confirm, and sure enough, it doesn't boot, because the boot sector (Cyl 0, Head 0, Sec 1) is in the wrong location.
Has anyone gotten it to work properly on real PC-98 hardware, or another emulator? The FDI images in question (I tried a couple) are pretty standard 1.2M images.
