Great job, not an easy project judging by your liner's notes. Very cool info about the unused content!

I'll have to give it a spin this summer when job permits.

Unsure if CRW 2 is the "prequel" as I haven't played it beyond checking out the differences between the two games, but if that's the one you're talking about we have certainly looked into its files a bit to see how difficult it'd be to hack in general. If there's another game in the CRW universe that we missed (aside from the PSX version that we're not going to be doing) then let me know.

I was talking about CRW2 actually. No other sequel i know about. Would be cool if you pick this one up as well.

In case anyone is having troubles finding the game, I've uploaded a personal dump of the original game that own a copy of here: http://retro-type.com/PC98/CRW-METAL-JACKET.zip

I just tested and it should work well enough with the English patch.

Was going to do that, but well, thanks to SkyeWelse for giving a dump! Can't wait to play this one again...

Also a big hi5 to 46 OkuMen and the people working hard at the Discord cannel.

This is amazing. I remember playing a few levels, marveling at the design and now I can understand what is going on. Thanks a bunch kuoushi !

We just announced that we are officially working on Different Realm: The Eternal Sage as an active translation project. It's a pretty damn good game, but it'll take a while for us to complete. Check out these links to read more about that.

We also posted up some progress on Appareden. I've finished the rough draft of the interface text and I'm going through the dialog and story at the moment (there's a lot). Check the project page for Appareden to see some status on that.

Here's some screenshots too.

Thanks for the fdi images SkyeWelse. By using pachy98 the sys-disc is done successfully, but after that it hangs for me at the demo-disc at inserting NINMU4.TXT and won't go any further...

Any clues?

That's the first time we've heard of something like that happening. Any chance we could get you to paste the contents of your log file in the Pachy98 folder?

Other things to check are to make sure you don't have the image open in any other programs like EditDisk or ND (or mounted in an emulator), and also that the disk isn't read only. It should handle those situations, but I'm just trying to guess why it would hang.

Here is the end of my log file:

INFO:root:"C:\CRW\bin\xdelta3" -f -d -s "C:\NINMU3.TXT" "C:\CRW\patch\NINMU3.TXT.xdelta" "C:\CRW\NINMU3.TXT_edited"
INFO:root:"C:\CRW\bin\ndc" P "C:\CRW\CRW-DEMO.FDI" 0 "C:\CRW\NINMU3.TXT"
INFO:root:"C:\CRW\bin\ndc" G "C:\CRW\CRW-DEMO.FDI" 0 "NINMU4.TXT" "C:\CRW"
INFO:root:"C:\CRW\bin\xdelta3" -f -d -s "C:\CRW\NINMU4.TXT" "C:\CRW\patch\NINMU4.TXT.xdelta" "C:\CRW\NINMU4.TXT_edited"
INFO:root:"C:\CRW\bin\ndc" P "C:\CRW-DEMO.FDI" 0 "C:\CRW\NINMU4.TXT"

Then I tried it again in another new folder with a different error message:

INFO:root:"C:\CRW\game\bin\xdelta3" -f -d -s "C:\CRW\game\CR8.EXE" "C:\CRW\game\patch\CR8.EXE.xdelta" "C:\CRW\game\CR8.EXE_edited"

PermissionError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: 'C:\\CRW\\game\\CR8.EXE'

Would be great if someone just could upload succesfully patched files!

Wish it were that easy and we could just distribute the pre-patched disk images, but legal issues so we can only provide patches.

Your problem appears to be a sort of timing error that occurs when some of the parts of the patching process are running too slowly for the other parts, which is unfortunate and annoying to try to track down precisely what our options are for fixing it. Rest assured though, we are trying to fix it. Your bug report is helping us make Pachy98 more robust, and hopefully other people in the future won't have to deal with some of these errors.

As for ways to fix your problem, try running it a couple more times (no need to show us logs if it fails, they'll likely be the same) and see if it completes. We are trying to track down the issue and fix it on our side, but can't guarantee when that will happen just yet.

Is anyone else having trouble with the save functionality of Rusty? This applies to both the English patched HDD, and original HDD installed versions of the game.

You can save a game after game over, but when you come back to the game after turning offmy 9821 Cx S3 choosing the load option does nothing. The game is tad too long to be beaten in one session.

Does save/load work well for everyone else?

This is the first time we've heard of that issue on either real hardware or emulation. The only slightly related issue was something to do with a read only image file, but I doubt that applies with real hardware. I believe the same file is called GAMEDATA.CFG, so maybe look for that on the hard drive after saving and see if the last modified time for it is current.

Yeah, I found that file myself. It would be a 0 byte sized file with a new time stamp. So something goes wrong during the writing of the file, though I never get any error messages.

I've tried installing the game on my own using manually patched disk images. Then booting off of the system disk. Now saving seems to work, though I mned further testing to be sure. But another thing that now also works that was not working in the HDD installed distribution is pcm dialogues during story sequences.

Well, I managed to finally beat the game today and confirm that by booting off of the system disk the save functionality works. The contents of all other floppies were installed on the HDD on A:¥rusty

After beating the game I got curious and copied the contents of the system floppy disk over to A:¥rusty and tried starting the game. The PCM dialogue voices were gone again. Not sure whether this is due to my boot config not leaving enough memory for Rusty or the game is just glitchy when running off of the HDD.

In any regard, absolutely fantastic game. Good job translating this gem. I did spot a typo in the translation though, alas I forgot to note down what and where. It was in the later part of the game though.

Thanks for translating CRW. Years ago, I ran into the Playstation version when a copy turned up at a used bookstore, but returned it because it didn't have any music (I thought the disc was busted, but there doesn't seem to be any even when emulating it...)

For anyone who's played this, uhhh, what's the deal with Mission 4? The escort one. The limo moves into a corner and stays there, and even if I destroy every enemy and search the map, it never ends. I suppose I could somehow still be missing one. Or, I could just bypass it by destroying the limo myself (maybe I can pretend it was a bad prime minister??) But I figure I must just be dumb and missing something.
