But after doing some reading seems like this may not be the best model to own due to Cirrus Logic GPU? Is it really that crippling? Now I apparently need a keyboard and a RGB to VGA adapter. Though I do have a Sony PVM, are those usable?

Not sure about the CPU, but it is a 9821 machine before 1997 when the standard started shifting towards making these machines more IBM standard compatible. Only thing to do now is try it out and see how it works for you. :)

Here's a data sheet on this model: (http://www.pasocomclub.co.jp/datas/nec_ ... r-s7r.html) The only thing I don't see is that it has FM sound built in so you may need to invest in a PC-9801-86 C-Bus card to allow for YM2608 6 channel FM support for some games to have sound that would require it. I'm guessing it has an IDE harddrive over SCSI, but I did not see a clear note of that in the specs.

At any rate, welcome to the hardware scene! And yes, you'll want to get a PC-98 keyboard and a 15-pin din to VGA adapter or make adapters yourself:

Here's some info on the pin-outs on the analog RGB port, mouse and keyboard:

Looks like you dove off into the deep end without any preparations. You sure got a long swim ahead of you...

Unless you have a 24khz capable display that VGA adapter won't help you much. For the record, your PVM is not capable of 24khz, nor are any regular PC monitors.

Thanks for the info!

Yeah I need to have done more research before my purchase but live and learn. I luckily have access to some arcade monitors so if I'm patient should come across a 24khz one at some point. Looks like a PC-9801-86 might take a bit to find. :( But still excited about this, despite the uphill climb I'll have.

Also I have an XRGB Mini, can that accept the RGB and output it properly to 480p, 720p, 1080p etc?

I wouldn't worry about the monitors too much. Yes, not all monitors support a 24 Khz signal, but I've found that there are many that do display it just fine, albeit some of the text may be cut off. Some HP and Dells will work just fine as long as you have the adapter. Specifically the popular brand called the HP2207h works fine as well as the HP L1908w.

Not sure about the RGB-Mini, but the XRGB-3 that I have will not take an input signal from the PC-98. I believe it's more for non-PC signals and the Micomsoft group uses a different product fork for PC stuff such as the XPC series. I've heard the XPC-4 is pretty amazing for a lot of these machines such as the PC-98 and X68000, but it's also pretty expensive.

Well I may just refuse shipment on the item and have Buyee dispose of it and learn a $100 lesson. Is there any games that would be playable on the V13 that I couldn't do on a C-Series or A-Mate? if not I don't really see any benefit to shipping this for $150 when I could just buy a different model.

Another question, can the Compact Flash adapter be used to play the 5 1/4 games? Or do those require an older PC98 with 5/14 drive no matter what?
