Hey again!

I know this is a weird and effectively useless topic. But I am curious in seeing how far I can go with this one for the hell of it.

So what would be required to get an actual or emulated system hooked up to the most basic internet? I was thinking it would be possible to use one of the DOS installs, and connect using the RS232 line over a version of SLIP, but I'm not sure if that's ever actually been ported to a PC-98-compatible build.

I do imagine that would be pretty hard to emulate as a proof of concept, however.

Alternatively, I could go the route of just using another computer as a host/proxy, and just sending the necessary information directly to the machine, but I can't think of any way to handle that without just writing my own program for it. I'm a fairly competent programmer if I need to be, but I find it hard to imagine documentation for PC98 stuff would be written in anything but Japanese. I'm conversational, but definitely not good enough to read a tech manual ;)

Anyhow, so I've got a tough road ahead on this one. Any advice on how to get started (I still don't have the actual machine mind you, so I'd like to first get an emulated version of this running) is warmly appreciated.

Thanks for reading!

There are many resources on Vector to connect a PC-98 to Internet, I'm sure some regular PC-98 users here could enlighten you about the correct procedure. TEEN seems to be the most popular TCP/IP driver, and there are even quite a few WWW (text) browsers available.
