I want to make a list of PC-9801 and PC-9821 games (floppy and CD-ROM format) that support options for music beyond FM sound: MIDI and/or CDDA music. I don't know if somewhere on the internet exist an exhaustive list about that, but I can't find it.

*Note that for those games needing a MPU-401, you can use a virtual MPU-401 program to fool the computer before loading the game (and connect directly the MIDI module on the DA-15 MIDI/joystick port if your computer have one). But if the game requires MPU-401 in dumb mode, only real PC-98 MPU-401 units will work.

In occidental "normal" PC games (MS-DOS and Windows) there are very few games intended for playing with Roland Sound Canvas MIDI modules on GS mode. Most of them are for GM mode. ("King's Quest V", "Ys I Complete" and a very few more are the exceptions)
In PC-98X1 it seems to be the opposite: I think that GS is more used than GM. Can anyone confirm the exceptions on this platform (games that are intented for GM mode)? The only games I'm sure they use GM mode are "Graystone Saga" games because in the sound options you can read "General MIDI".

The list is on "work in progress" and it's missing to specify all the MIDI modules (SC-55, SC-88, MT-32, CM-64, ...) each game is intended for and if it uses GS or GM (I know, for example, "Gaias Lord" is for Roland SC-55 modules and uses GS mode because it is clearly stated in the sound options menu, so it will sound better that way. But for most games you need to check that on the box or the user's manual).

- Farland Story 1: Tooi Kuni no Monogatari (FLOPPY) (Requires MPU-401 MIDI in dumb mode. Not RS-232C MIDI support)
- Farland Story 2: Arc Ou no Ensei (Farland Story Denki) (FLOPPY) (Requires MPU-401 MIDI in dumb mode. Not RS-232C MIDI support. You can use CD-DA music using the provided Audio-CD)
- Farland Story 3: Tenshi No Namida (FLOPPY) (Requires MPU-401 MIDI in dumb mode. Not RS-232C MIDI support. You can use CD-DA music using the provided Audio-CD)
- Farland Story 4: Hakugin No Tsubasa (FLOPPY) (Requires MPU-401 MIDI in dumb mode. Not RS-232C MIDI support. You can use CD-DA music using the provided Audio-CD)
- Farland Story 5: Daichi No Kizuna (FLOPPY) (Requires MPU-401 MIDI in dumb mode. Not RS-232C MIDI support. You can use CD-DA music using the provided Audio-CD)
- Yurou: Transient Sands (FLOPPY VERSION AND CD-ROM VERSION) (Requires MPU-401 MIDI in dumb mode. Not RS-232C MIDI support)
- Police Quest II (FLOPPY) (Requires MPU-401 MIDI in dumb mode. Not RS-232C MIDI support. For MT-32 modules)
- Guardian Recall (FLOPPY) (Requires MPU-401 MIDI in dumb mode. Not RS-232C MIDI support)
- Guardian Recall (CD-ROM) Requires MPU-401 MIDI in dumb mode. Not RS-232C MIDI support. You can play using CDDA music tracks)

- A Hard Day's Night (Yoshinaga Sayuri ga Yattekuru Yaa! Yaa! Yaa! - A Hard Days's Night) (FLOPPY) (Requires MPU-401 MIDI. Not RS-232C MIDI support. Don't know if it uses GS or GM)
- Filsnown: Hikari to Toki (FLOPPY) (Requires MPU-401 MIDI. Not RS-232C MIDI support. Don't know if it uses GS or GM)
- Foresight Dolly (FLOPPY) (Requires MPU-401 MIDI. Not RS-232C MIDI support. Don't know if it uses GS or GM)
- Gaias Lord (FLOPPY) (Requires MPU-401 MIDI. Not RS-232C MIDI support. It uses SC-55 GS)

- Animahjong X (Anime Mahjong X) (FLOPPY) (Supports RS-232C MIDI. Don't know if it uses SC-55 GS or GM)
- Ankoku Sennen Oukoku - Magical Cubic (FLOPPY) (Supports RS-232C MIDI. Don't know if it uses GS or GM)
- Bible Master 2: The Chaos of Aglia (FLOPPY) (Supports RS-232C MIDI. Don't know if it uses GS or GM)
- Blackthorne (256 Colors Version) (FLOPPY) (Supports RS-232C MIDI. Don't know if it uses GS or GM)
- Brandish VT (FLOPPY) (Supports RS-232C MIDI. Don't know if it uses GS or GM)
- CRW2 (FLOPPY) (Supports RS-232C MIDI. Don't know if it uses GS or GM)
- Dennou Sentai La Vie en Three (Dennou Sentai Lavian Three / Ravian 3) (FLOPPY) (Supports RS-232C MIDI. Don't know if it uses GS or GM)
- Etemible: Tenjou Mukyuu (FLOPPY) (Supports RS-232C MIDI. Don't know if it uses GS or GM)
- Graystone Saga Gaiden: The Dark Storm of Morza (FLOPPY) (Supports RS-232C MIDI. GM mode)
- Graystone Saga: Demon's Fountain (FLOPPY) (Supports RS-232C MIDI. GM mode)
- Hinadori No Saezuri (FLOPPY) (Supports RS-232C MIDI. Don't know if it uses GS or GM)
- Mahjong Sports Line (FLOPPY) (Supports RS-232C MIDI. Don't know if it uses GS or GM)
- Star Platinum (FLOPPY) (Supports RS-232C MIDI. Don't know if it uses GS or GM)
- Ultimate Blade (FLOPPY) (Supports RS-232C MIDI. Don't know if it uses GS or GM)
- The Legend of Heroes IV (CD-ROM) (Supports RS-232C MIDI. Don't know if it uses SC-55 GS or GM)

- Flame Zapper Kotsujin (FLOPPY)(Accordingly the manual, it seems to exist an update disk for using MIDI music, but maybe it has not been dumped and uploaded to the internet yet. Don't know which kind of MIDI it will use.)
- Crystal Rinal (CD-ROM VERSION) (Oddly, this CD-ROM version contents CD-DA music tracks but I can't see any option inside the game for choosing them instead FM music. It seems don't have MIDI neither (I can't see that option). This is one of those "FM-Towns/PC-98 hybrid" games, so maybe the CD-DA tracks only play on FM-Towns computers. Or maybe they included those CD-DA tracks only as a "bonus/omake". I don't know...)
- Viper-CTR: Asuka (CD-ROM) (You can choose CDDA music BUT there is an incompatibility bug which makes some versions of the "FMX.COM" sound driver won't work with some PC-98 computers and so... you can only play with FM music)
- Yu-No (CD-ROM) (The game has CD-DA music tracks but I don't know how to activate them in the game. Are them only included as a "bonus/omake"?)

- Guynarock R: Galactic Guardian (CD-ROM FOR WINDOWS) (MIDI and CDDA)
- Hanafuda de Pon! (CD-ROM FOR WINDOWS) (MIDI)
- KU2 Impact (CD-ROM FOR WINDOWS) (MIDI)
- Onnanoko no Shikumi (CD-ROM FOR WINDOWS) (MIDI and CDDA)
- Variable Geo Custom (CD-ROM FOR WINDOWS) (MIDI and CDDA)
- Viper F-40 (CD-ROM FOR WINDOWS) (MIDI and CDDA)
- Viper-CTR: Asuka (WINDOWS VERSION) (CD-ROM FOR WINDOWS) (MIDI and CDDA)

Feel free to contribute. Let's improve this list.
