Hey I'm Xalphenos and I'm new here. Thanks for letting me join your group.

Ok I've been messing around with hacking pc98 games, specifically Aiza, and I was wondering if I should spend the time trying to pull off a variable width font.

As far as emulators go do most people just use whatever font that gets generated when the emulator is first run or does everyone stick to the amex font or some other standard font?

As far as real hardware goes does each system have the same system font or, as I suspect, did the font change between hardware revisions?

I ask because if everyone is essentially using a different font there's no real point trying to do a vwf since the widths of all the different fonts would be different. In that case the only options would be to either try inserting my own font or determine the widths on the fly. Both would probably be harder.

Last question. According to the bitmap header for the amex font it is 1bpp, I've not actually checked further. Is this true of all system fonts?

Oh yeah, last last question for real. Does anyone have any documentation on the pc98 keyboard connector, or any pc98 technical documentation at all?

Thanks.

Thanks for all the info. It'll take me forever to read through being Japanese but I guessed that would be the case.

Thanks again.

Yes, this is breaking new frontiers in necroposting, but here we go:

First of all, thank you for the link to that tutorial. It's extremely insightful. Wish I'd found it sooner.

Here's the part in the tutorial that's blowing my mind, though:

Quote:
Clus = Cyl*Nh+Hd
Cyl = Clus/Nh
Hd = Clus%Nh
Sec = 1~26(16)

...am I to understand that instead of using a Sector per Cluster value of 13 (which would render all the of the disk addressable, if they were just willing to use two bytes for the cluster) they just... made 38% of the disk unaddressable by the N88 Basic FAT?
