Here's the creator:

That's all the info I've got, I'm afraid. Googling with it brings up some old blog entries, but the images seem to be dead.

Also, unrelated to the above, but I'm just going to leave this katakana here in case anyone is curious...

Here's the PC-8801 version: http://www.sendspace.com/file/k3y8d2

I think Rambo and Super Rambo are the same thing, at least on the PC-8801 and FM-7. Let's back up...

Looks like Pack-In-Video released all Rambo-related video games for Japanese home computers.

First, Rambo (ランボー) for the MSX in 1985. It looks pretty dire.

Also in 1985 (or maybe 1986), there was Super Rambo Special (スーパーランボー スペシャル)for the MSX2.

Then in 1986, Super Rambo (スーパーランボー) was released for the PC-8801, FM-7, and X1. Note that it says "Super Rambo" on the box spine in Japanese and on the front in English, but simply "Rambo" on the front in Japanese and in-game in English. This may be where the confusion comes from.

Thank you very much for the download!

Ahh, that explains a lot. It would seem then, that it was the port of Super Rambo Special, to PC-88 and FM-7. I will check just in case though. A contact has a large archive of PC games, and I was hoping to bring a copy of one of them with to the interview.

Most awesome.

As an aside, I think both Rambo games on the MSX and MSX2 look quite awesome. :D The first seems modelled on Hydlide, while the second seems based on Zelda for the Famicom.

For 1985 and 1986 they're pretty damn awesome.

Don't tell me you actually managed to track down one of those developers... If you did, you really need to let me know

Yup, just sent 2 pms. The second one I sent after discovering your massive topic on the company here. That's some good detective work, and the software list should prove useful.

Where are those advert scans you promised everyone? ;)

I'm back!

Thanks to Macaw I also had a very fruitful interview on Xainsoft.

Also, I spoke with the mastermind behind DAIVA, and got the full scoop on its conception and creation.

Also, one of the coolest items I picked up in Japan was an issue of Comptiq, January 1987, which has a massive feature visiting about 20 computer developrs acros Japan, with photos of all the staff. It's basically a who's who of all the cool people from 1987.

Once I'm done with the book I'm thinking of scanning and uploading it, assuming someone hasn't already done so.

Wow, just read about your translator issues... sounds like you can write a separate book about it!

Indeed!

But apart from that hiccup, there were some great people on the trip.

I also met up with a forum regular, which was cool. :)

Thanks again for the signature! Keeping it amongst all my Zain boxes now haha.

Just read about some of that drama. Really sucks, must've been incredibly frustrating, especially considering what you were paying them. Good to see you returned with all the content you wanted though.

Yeah thanks again for the pages that featured Sein Soft. I also have the 1989 comptiq issue with the company feature, along with whats in all the login issues I have (login spread their company features amongst about 4-5 issues each year). Any PC company you can think of back then was at least covered somewhat along with photo's.

The bosses of places like Bothtec and GAM are really memorable... haha.

Ahh, didn't notice you'd posted here. No problem - thanks for the screens! I printed them off and they were very useful during the interview.

John, is it normal for a backer of the digital version not to receive anymore updates after #34? The last thing I got was the mail about the refund, but I see you posted updates after that relating to digital which I can't view.

My apologies - something I did not anticipate was that after giving the refund the digital backers no longer receive updates.

There were a couple of backer only updates, but these only related directly to the refund... Which ironically those being refunded would not see.

I am making future updates public. Unless there's a very important reason not to.

Anyone else received their copies?

I know Kobushi and Macaw each received a copy, but given our pseudonyms I wasn't sure who else had.

Watched the BEEP tour on DVD. Is Hummingbird Soft's Recapture (FM-7, FD) still not dumped? Derboo said the Japanese emu community has an image, but that it's been problematic to play/run.
